Travel Guide: Mantayupan Falls, Cebu

Mantayupan Falls-- I have always longed to see this majestic waterfalls and to take a dip on its cool, refreshing waters.

My plan became real when a friend, Kareen of Laagan na Cebuana, invited me to join her on a trip to Southern Cebu on the day of her much-awaited birthday. At first I was quite hesitant. I didn't even had the slightest idea that she is celebrating her birthday that day. Surely, this day was so meaningful and an adventure-filled one!

Mantayupan Falls

Located in Barili, a town which is 61 kilometers southwest of Cebu City and an hour or two bus ride, Mantayupan Falls is one of the main tourist attractions in the area. Tourists-- great and small, local and foreign-- find their way to one of Cebu's tallest waterfalls.

Mantayupan Falls, also known by the locals as Ambakan Falls, has two levels. The first level are three waterfalls with the height of 14 meters. And at the second level is a waterfall which is 98 meters high!

First Level-- 14 meters

Second Level-- 98 meters

Travel Tips:

1. Cebu City to Barili-- P75 (Bus- 1 to 2 hours ride.)
Note: It is best to go there from Cebu City early in the morning to avoid traffic.
2. Town proper to Mantayupan Falls-- P20 (Habal-habal)
3. Entrance-- P10

Side Trip-- Tilapia Fishing Village and Restaurant (It is near the entrance to the falls.)
