I have always counted Mt. Kilakiron as the first tropical mountain that I have ever climbed (literally from the foot to the summit). My first climb at Mt. Kilakiron was during the training climb of Earth Society on September 2004. And after that climb, I have scaled Mt. Kilakiron twice on September 2006.
Mt. Kilakiron is part of the Mt. Kalatungan Range Natural Park located at Bukidnon, Philippines. It is a mountain where you can see the lush green forest with big trees and moss all around. At the summit, there is a limited view of the places below due to the trees that surround the peak. And one thing, it is so cold up there! You need to be very wise in insulating yourself through the night at the peak.
Mt. Kilakiron is a 30 minute to 1 hour ride from the campus of Mountain View College in Valencia City, Bukidnon to the last village at the foot of the mountain. Before your climb, you must ask permission from the "Datu" at the village.
Climbing Tip: You also need to bring water containers and you must never forget to fill it up at the last water source because there is no water source at the peak of Mt. Kilakiron.
