Recollection: Magsanga Peaks

Summit-- Magsanga Peak II

One of my recent climbs is at Magsanga located at Merida, Leyte, Philippines. In order to get there, you need to ride a bus from Ormoc City to Isabel, Leyte. Then from Isabel, you will experience the thrill of riding a habal-habal going to the barrio at the foot of the mountain.

Our climb to Magsanga is a special one for me because since I am a child, I have always wished to climb this mountain. Magsanga can be seen from Ormoc Bay and everyday I used to see this mountain.

Climbing Tip: It is advised that you will climb Magsanga in the afternoon so as to avoid the heat of the morning and noon sun. It is then very nice to see the sunset and sleep literally at the peak of Magsanga.

The summit can accommodate maybe four to five persons. No tents, you only sleep on your sleeping bag. You can then the view the sunrise and can see the places below: Ormoc City, Tongonan Geothermal Plant, and the Municipalities of Merida and Palompon. You will really have a 360-degree view up there.

On the next day, you descend the first peak and then proceed to the second peak.
